School Principal

Bodwell High School is a private boarding school with 400 students, Grades 8-12, representing 30 countries. It is situated in North Vancouver, B.C., overlooking Burrard Inlet and the Vancouver skyline. The Search Committee is seeking a well-qualified, experienced Principal to lead a staff of dedicated professionals in the school’s continuing growth and evolution as an internationally-recognized boarding school.

Role Description

The school principal is one of the three members of the school’s Management Committee. The President focuses on international marketing, building development, and organization sustainability. The Director of Admissions focuses on student admissions, counseling, and dormitory services. The school principal focuses on the school’s mission and vision, promotes high academic standards, and constantly works to improve student learning and development.

  1. through nurturing relationships between and among students, staff, parents, Management Committee and other community members for continuous growth, and collaborating with all to develop, implement and monitor a shared vision for the school;

  2. through utilizing school management practices that reflect and demonstrate sound fiscal responsibility in creating a safe, caring, efficient and effective learning environment;

  3. through effective and ethical leadership practices;

  4. through cooperatively fostering a school culture that reflects the school’s mission and vision, promotes global and environmental awareness, develops respect for diversity, and meets the curriculum requirements and needs of all students (recognizing that almost all of them are university-bound);

  5. through leading and encouraging professional growth activities that demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  1. Master's degree in Educational Administration and Leadership
  2. Eligibility for certification by the B.C. College of Teachers or the Ministry of Education's Independent Schools branch
  3. Successful and extensive experience in school leadership, preferably at the secondary level
  4. Proven ability to lead and coordinate a highly professional staff in a collaborative environment

Starting Date

Ideally, the new principal will take up this position by September 1, 2010. If necessary, a later starting date can be negotiated.
