Bodwell High School, situated in North Vancouver, B.C., and overlooking Burrard Inlet and the Vancouver skyline, is seeking a well-qualified,
experienced English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) teacher to lead a department
of dedicated professionals who are working to achieve this goal:
‘The development of the specialized knowledge of strategies and best practices required to increase the effectiveness of our efforts to offer a Canadian education to international students, including teaching English-as-a-second language.
This is a full-time leadership position consisting of two-thirds administration, and one-third teaching.
Role Description:
The ESL Head will lead the continued development of an ESL Program that
accommodates the needs of students from 30 countries; will take charge of the appropriate assessment, placement, and instruction of students will varying levels of ability on English; will work collaboratively with department staff to develop and refine policies and procedures; will facilitate the development and professional growth of staff; and will be responsible for the evaluation of staff performance within the department.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Teaching English-as-a-Second Language (TESL) or Curriculum Development is preferred.
- Eligibility for certification by the B.C. College of Teachers or the Ministry of Education’s Independent Schools branch.
- Successful experience teaching ESL, preferably at the secondary school level.
- Proven ability to coordinate a highly professional group of teachers in a collaborative environment.
