Supporting academic and personal aspirations of every student

Services before Arrival

One month before arrival, new students receive an admissions package containing important information about attending Bodwell High School. Overseas students also receive additional information introducing them to life in Vancouver. Homestay or student dormitory placement and airport pick-up are available upon request.

New Student Orientation

At the beginning of each school term, all new students are expected to attend an orientation session held in both English and the first language of the respective student. Topics include curriculum planning, school policies, living in Vancouver, safety issues, public transportation, medical insurance and managing personal finances. Parents are also invited to meet with their child's counsellor to discuss any questions or concerns.

Guidance on University Admissions

Counsellors assist students with goal setting, university selection and application procedures. College and university representatives are invited to speak to students in grades 11 and 12. Informational visits are also conducted to campuses in the Lower Mainland.

Close Contact with Parents

Progress reports are sent to parents twice a school term and a newsletter once a school term. Counsellors often contact parents by fax or phone and periodically visit different countries to meet with overseas parents.

Joann Mckinlay
Student Counsellor

“I believe that every student has unique talents and gifts. As a counsellor at Bodwell, I try to nurture those gifts for the student's academic and social growth and strengthen the communication between parents and school.”
