New Extra-curricular Schedule Implementation

As indicated in with our mission statement, we would like all students to emerge from Bodwell as “well-rounded citizens who contribute positively to the world.” In the past, we were concerned that only about 35% of our students were active in extra-curricular and community activities. One reason for the low turn-out was the length of our school day. For this reason, we have shortened the academic school day so that it ends at 3:10 p.m. This does not mean that students have less instructional time. What it means is that they do not have “spare” periods during the day. All students are in class from 8:20 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. From 3:15 to 4:30 p.m., we have extra-curricular activities, and all students are required to participate in at least one of them. Therefore, we now have 100% participation in our extra-curricular program. Both staff and students (well – most of them!) have welcomed these changes.

Students have many activities from which to choose. Those offered this semester are as follows: badminton, soccer, volleyball, swimming, fitness, Tae Kwon Do, cross-country running, table tennis, chess/games, jazz ensemble, choir, art, drama, social club, global awareness club, recycling club, volunteer club, peer tutoring club, guitar club, and yearbook club.
