Background
Bodwell High School was founded in 1991 in the City of Vancouver
and is a non-denominational, co-educational day and boarding school,
offering grades 8 to 12 and university preparation.
In September, 2003, the school moved into its new facility on Harbourside
Drive in North Vancouver, overlooking beautiful Burrard Inlet and
the Vancouver harbour.
Our goal is to provide high-quality programs that will foster positive
experiences for our students. Bodwell teachers
offer intellectual stimulation and mentorship to support our students'
pursuit of knowledge and creativity. Bodwell
counsellors provide guidance and are empathetic listeners. They
are also an important communication link between parents and students.
Accommodation is available for international students in either
the student dormitory or with our carefully
selected homestay families.
International students who join Bodwell with insufficient English
to start the regular academic program
are offered a specialized English as a Second
Language (ESL) program. The program involves a content-based
approach that combines high school subject content with language
teaching.
Our Mission
At Bodwell High School, we provide a culturally-diverse environment
for students from around the globe, and enable them to become active
learners and well-rounded citizens who contribute positively to
the world.
Our Vision
It is our vision that Bodwell High School be characterized by
- Students who are confident, respectful, responsible citizens
of the world, with the necessary tools to be successful in life
and to contribute positively to society
- A staff that is a professional learning community: well educated,
yet continuing to grow professionally through on-going learning,
cooperation, collaboration, and mutual support; and consisting
of people who serve as positive role models for students and their
parents
- Administration that decisively, consistently, efficiently and
supportively works to serve the best interests of the school community
- Parents who strongly trust and support the school and its programs
- A curriculum that is well-defined, purposeful, diverse, well-balanced,
challenging and engaging, and which serves to interconnect mind,
body and soul.
It is also our vision that our school be recognized in the community
as one that achieves high academic standards, and whose students
and graduates are citizens of good character.
The most important criteria for measuring our success will be our
ability to attract students motivated by our mission; the high number
of graduating students entering post-secondary institutions; and
the resulting sense of satisfaction and reward felt by the Bodwell
school community.
Our Values
In order to achieve our vision, we strive to
- establish common standards among the staff and administration,
so that students gain a clear understanding of our expectations
regarding
- academic achievement,
- character development,
- behaviour,
- personal development, and
- individual goal-setting;
- challenge ourselves to continually improve our curriculum,
while conforming to Ministry standards;
- make a committed effort to understand our students, to help
them utilize their multiple intelligences;
- promote high quality work in students by providing frequent,
positive feedback, and encouragement to continually improve;
- model high standards and values, motivating and leading students
to be life-long learners as well as active and successful participants
in their respective communities;
- engage parents and the school community in the learning process,
to enrich our program and enhance our academic standards;
- use each other's strengths, and utilize constructive feedback,
to enhance the quality of our teaching;
- support and encourage each other as we continue to grow professionally;
- strive to gain a high reputation among outstanding post-secondary
institutions and the global community as a result of our high
achieving graduates.
