Message from the Principal
We are nearing the end of another busy and successful semester at Bodwell. Our students are engaged in their final examinations, and will be starting their semester break after the last exam on Thursday, April 9th.
I will be taking a Leave of Absence during the Summer Semester 2009. During my absence, Mr. Jim Burnett, our Athletic Director, will be our Acting Principal. Mr. Burnett has previously served as the Principal of Collingwood School in West Vancouver.
I would like to thank all parents for their support of our school - particularly those whose sons and daughters are graduating this semester, or who are leaving us for other reasons. We trust that your association with Bodwell has been a happy one, and that your son or daughter has benefited from his/her stay in our very multiculural community. We hope that all of our departing students will continue to be "active learners and well-rounded citizens who contribute positively to the world."
Yours Sincerely,
Stephen Smith
Principal

SWINE FLU UPDATE

Dear Parents,
As you may have already heard from the media, there have been several cases of swine flu identified in several countries around the world, as well as here, in British Columbia. I would like take this opportunity to update you in regards to how we at Bodwell are carefully monitoring the swine flu situation within our school community.
Just like everything we do, Bodwell stays on top of the news and follows closely the World Health Organization (WHO) advisories. We always take the necessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of our students. In previous outbreaks, like SARS, Bodwell has professionally followed all necessary protocols to ensure the well-being of all our students. Please be assured that the health and safety of our students are our number one priorities and we will keep in close communication with you in regards to our progress.
At this point in time, the cases of Swine Flu in British Columbia are quite mild and similar to seasonal infuenza. The Provincial Health Officer is encouraging all students and schools to continue taking practical steps to prevent the spread of illness, but not to be too alarmed.
We have informed all the school administrators and staff to be alert of any signs and symptoms of illness amongst our students. If such illnesses arise, they are immediately advised to consult medical professionals and to stay at home to rest and get better. We remind our students to wash hands frequently, be careful with personal hygiene, and stay healthy by eating and resting well.
We have reminded all students to take the following precautions:
- Wash hands during every break for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching mouth and nose
- Avoid hand greetings and kissing
- Sneeze on disposible paper and wash hands immediately after
- Report all Flu symptoms, including coughing, sneezing, eye irritation, running nose, fatigue, headaches, fever over 38C, etc.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours truly,
Cathy Lee
Director of Admissions
