What is Mission Inside-Out?
Who the heck am I? What makes me unique? Who do I aspire to be? We are each searching for what kind of person we are and want to be.
What makes us who we are? You might think that who you are is determined by where you come from or by what language you speak. Or by who you hang around with. Or by what your parents do or say.
Of course those are all very important things that help us form who we are.
There is something much more important in deciding our own identities.
Who you are is what you do. It's not what you wear, or where you come from, or what you look like that determines what kind of person you are, it is the actions that you choose. A nobody does nothing. But someone who wants to become a greater person does greater things.
How you act toward the world around you?people, property, your surroundings--reflects what kind of person you are. To change the inside, you need take action to change the outside. No matter how small--picking up some garbage, cleaning up your cafeteria table, pushing in your chair, turning out your lights when you leave your room--changing your outside and your surroundings changes your insides and your identity. We need to clean up, learn about and respect the environment not just because we are told to or we need to or we can save money but because it reflects who we are. It defines you each as a young person and student. It defines us as a school. Environmental protection will be something that we can be proud of, and take pride in our school.
There are some big environmental problems here at the school and also out in the world. If you think that just you, one person, can't make a difference with all the environmental problems that exist, here are four examples of one person who made an incredible difference. Gandhi. Trudeau. King. Mandela.
We don't have be perfect or expect to change everything. But we can try to change what we do. This is your opportunity. This is not Mission Impossible. It's MISSION INSIDE-OUT.
Please keep an open mind, start to think about how you can change your world and your self.
And just do it.
Why? Because who you are is what you do.
