Class of 2006
When I was in Bodwell, Entrepreneurship was a new course and I believe I was in the 1st batch under Mr Johnson Chiu. In that class, our project was to start a business and run it. I remember very vividly that I named our team and business, ‘Ice-topia’ and we did smoothies.
We went to Costco to get frozen ingredients, tested a few batches to finalize the recipe, and trained each of us to make them properly. We hustled every lunch break and made sure we sold out each day. We also delivered to classes to earn every bit that we could during that timeframe. It was exhilarating because we made a profit from something that we had no formal training in, just trial and error.
This experience gave me the confidence to start and run a pharmaceutical and manufacturing company without any formal training in pharmaceuticals or chemistry. Yet we have been making innovative products and changing lives. Bodwell taught me that confidence and perseverance can’t be taught but come naturally with mini successes; and education for life and its challenges can’t be learnt in books but experienced in a holistic environment.
