Bodwell’s Specialized Media and STEM Education Pathways

STEM and media education is most effective when it allows students to test the concepts they’re learning in class by building real world projects.

Developed with input from the University of Toronto and other partners, Bodwell's Real World Academies in STEM and Media are launching in Fall 2026 and are built on exactly this model: learn, apply, produce, showcase.

As part of the STEM Academy education pathway, students study mechanical engineering and computer science principles in their final block of the school day, and then work with their classmates to build and code a robot to compete in VEX V5 competitions during specialized co-curriculars after school.

As part of the Innovative Media Academy education pathway, students take courses in directing & script development and media design, and then form a production team to cast, film, edit, and market an original short film that will later screen at the Bodwell Film Festival and in regional competitions in front of industry professionals.

Both academies offer students BC curricular course credits, and are integrated with the BC Graduation Program. Students complete all their required courses in their first four classes of the school day, and then gain specialized STEM or media education through a fifth specialized course and accompanying co-curriculars.

Students graduate Bodwell High School with both a Dogwood Diploma and portfolio-quality evidence of their learning and aptitude.

The North Shore News recently featured an article about how our specialized STEM and media education will further support our students to compete for the limited spots available in high-demand programs in top Canadian and international universities.
